Trip To Gosainkunda

GosainKunda Lake During Rainy Season

GosainKunda or spelled as Gosai Kunda is a hindu sacred lake situated in Langtang National Park at an elevation of 4380m(14370 ft) in Rasuwa district. It is about 120 km far from Kathmandu. We can reach there from two ways, one is from Dhunche and second if from Sundarijal, Kathmandu. It takes about 4 to 7 days short trek to Gosainkunda and back to Kathmandu. We can go by bus up to Dhunche and trek about 12 kms to Gosainkunda, also we can trek directly from Sundarijal, Kathmandu to Gosainkunda in about 2-3 days which is about 33 km.Here the rare pandas hide in dense rhododendron forest, groups of blue sheep graze in the alpine meadows and a wide scenery of Himalayan ranges including Ganesh and Langtang Himal. Moreover, there is a believe that "Lord Shiva in Satya Yuga came here to drink water after swallowing
poison. He slashed the mountain with his trident and later on the lake was formed". Today I am writing my own experiences about Gosainkunda Lake Trek in Monsoon season in Nepal(July-Sep).
Trekking Map Of Gosainkunda

Our journey starts from lagankhel, lalitpur. As we were only two people we decided to go by bus up to dhunche then after start the trek to gosainkunda. We took a taxi from lagankhel and reached to machapokhari bus station at around 6 am.We booked two seats which cost around $5 per person in Timure Deluxe.
Inside Bus
The man with spectacles is me while another one is my friend Avi shake Shah.We were so excited as this was our first time trek to gosainkunda. We had heard a lot of things from my colleagues about this mythical place so we had different energy and excitation to reach there as soon as possible. We leaved at 6:30 from there and stopped at Betrawati, Nuwakot for lunch at around 11:00 am.We reached to dhunche at 1:00 pm and started to trek at around 2:00 pm.As we booked non-stop deluxe, the bus didn't stopped so much in the way.I think the driver was also in hurry to reach his destination and also we were. There are so many scenic view on the way which are outstanding and picturesque. We didn't feel bored while traveling because the view were so breath-taking.
On the way to Dhunche
After reaching Dhunche we bought some urgency materials like raincoats, snickers, medicines etc, took lunch at Dhunche and then we started for our amazing trek.Fewer more than half hour of walking we reached at GhatteKhola(1960m) passing by suspension bridge. We had planned to reach Deurali same day. While traveling we took rest in several places suddenly we meet four people trekking for Gosainkunda. We introduced with them. They were also from our same district so it didn't took long time for closeness. We together walked for our remaining journey. Now we are not only two we are altogether six in our group. Before reaching Deurali, rainfall started so heavily so that we need to stop for shelter.Luckily we got a newly made tent-cottage in the way and had a stop there. This paid cottage was made for serving shelter and food to pilgrims. As Gosainkunda is Hindu as well as Buddhist holy place people who follow this religion visit Gosainkunda-Fair which is held in JanaiPurnima festival celebrated in Nepal generally at August every year.So we can find lots of cottages in the way if we go to visit Gosainkunda at August.Rain stopped and we continued our journey for Deurali.Around 5:30 pm we reached to Deurali(around 2500m) and stayed there.

View From Dhimsa
Next day at early morning around 5 am we started our trekking ahead. We had targeted to reach Gosainkunda same day so we continued our journey early otherwise it will be difficult to reach Gosainkunda same day.Morning fresh air refreshed  our whole body we continued our easy walking to SinghGompa (Chandanbari) and reached  around 8:00 am.We took breakfast and took rest for about 1 hour and continued our journey ahead. The scenic view of hill ranges and trail in the dense forest makes you forget your pain and time.

Way to Cholang Pati From Singh Gompa

The trail from Singh Gompa to Cholang Pati is easy. The way in the dense forest covered by fog will please your eyes and refreshes your mind .The Alpine forest changes its nature time to time which is the beautiful moment of the journey. We reached Cholang Pati(3650m) at around 11:00 am.After taking short rest we again headed forward to LauriBina(3920m).There is a believe that "we should devote our stick that we carried along the trek in LauriBina and choose another trekking stick left by others."Now, the most difficult trail of the route is from Lauribina to Buddha Temple. It took over 1.5 hrs to climb up to buddha temple. Most people suffer from altitude sickness in this part so we should take plenty of rest while climbing to buddha temple. In August as i mentioned above there are lots of cottages built all over the way so we should not have to worry about our fooding and lodging. We took our lunch Roti and Potato Veg at Buddha Temple. We took over 2 hours rest there because we all had been so tired while passing lauri bina ta buddha temple. However the difficult part ends now so we don't had to worry at all. Also the himalayan ranges changes to big rock mountains  and enjoying these views we reached to our destination around 5 pm.The Bhairab Kunda welcomes every pilgrims before Gosainkunda. We stayed in hotel in Gosainkunda(4380m).Next day we woke early and finished our rituals in lake.We worshipped Lord Shiva and his beloved Parvati and returned back to dhunche same day same route. The following day we headed towards Kathmandu and reached home at late evening.

Overall, we had great trip to GosainKunda. We started our journey with two and ended up with six.If you love trekking Gosainkunda will be the best place with full of adventures at short time.
